Free Volleyball Score Sheets

A volleyball score sheet is used to record a volleyball match. It tracks and documents everything that happens during the match. It shows who played against whom, what the scores were, and how the match progressed. The scoresheet is maintained by an official scorer.

How is the game played?

With a net between two six-player teams, volleyball is played using a ball that both teams send over the net into the opponent’s court. The game begins with a serve, where a player hits the ball over the net behind the end line. Your team scores a point when the ball lands on the ground in the opponent’s court or if they fail to return the ball properly. Since matches are generally played in a best-of-five format (with most sets played to 25 points under rally scoring), you need just 25 points to win a set. Because every rally results in a point, the scorekeeper needs a solid score sheet to maintain an accurate record of points and rotations. Volleyball Score Sheet Templates

While our layouts offer graphic variety, here’s what’s standard in all: Top section: Match and team details At the top of each sheet are fields for date, location, match number, court number (in some versions), set number, and division. It also records home and visiting team names, start and end times, and competition level. Some templates include division options like Men/Women/Co-Ed or category options like Adult/Junior. Others feature level fields that are ideal for high school matches and tournaments. Player numbers and team schedule There is dedicated space for each team to list player names, jersey numbers, and captains (in some templates) before the match begins. This is especially helpful in high school score sheets, where roster and substitution confusion often occurs. Scorers and referees can verify eligibility and track participation accurately. Rotations and serve order tracking Volleyball has a strict rotation system. Each team has a rotation grid in our templates that shows the serving order and starting positions. When teams rotate after winning the serve, this section records progress through these positions. Scoring and rally tracking Our templates include rally tracking grids to record points won on each rally. Modern volleyball uses rally scoring, and every serve results in a point for one team. The score sheet visually tracks points as they are earned. Some layouts even include:

Time out and substitution trackers Templates also mark T1 and T2 for team timeouts and have substitution rows (listed like “Sub 1-18”). They show which player is the libero, when they enter or leave play, and any libero-related notes along with substitutions and rally tracking. Sanctions, remarks, and signatures Score sheets feature a sanctions table detailing W (warning), P (penalty), E (expulsion), and D (disqualification). This is more common in official score sheets than in casual game sheets. If you’re playing casually, this section can be ignored. It is primarily for official matches. Match Officials Names and Signatures Each template includes space for adding names of match officials, such as referees, line judges, and scorers. There are also remarks or comment boxes for any special match notes, such as injuries, disputes, or unusual interruptions. How to Use Our Volleyball Score Sheet Template

1. The first step is downloading and printing the volleyball score sheet if you’re keeping score by hand.
2. Fill in match details before the game starts. Write team names, start time, location, date, game number/level, and set number.
3. Before the game begins, record player lineups and jersey numbers for both teams. Confirm the starting rotation if your sheet includes rotation boxes.
4. After each rally, mark the winning team’s point for the current set and update the scoring grid throughout the match.
5. After each point, update rotation tracking and confirm who is serving next.
6. If a team calls a timeout or makes a substitution, log it in the appropriate section immediately.
7. Once a team reaches 25 points, or 15 in a deciding set, mark the winning team and final score for the completed set.
