A Recreational Vehicle (RV) Bill of Sale is a formal document used to transfer the legal title & ownership of an RV from the seller to the buyer for a mutually agreed-upon price. As permanent written proof of the transaction, it helps prevent legal disputes over title & ownership after the sale or transfer.

To prove title or ownership of an RV to a third party, such as a government tax agency or a potential buyer, you will be required to produce a Bill of Sale as one of the documentary requirements of the process – so make sure you keep a copy of the original bill! Only buyers get to keep the original document once payment has been made.

Why Do I Need a Bill of Sale?

An accurately filled-out Bill of Sale helps both sellers &  buyers in multiple ways:

  • Records the purchase for legal and tax purposes
  • Outlines the terms of the sale for future reference
  • Protects both parties from future legal disputes over ownership, condition, or payment
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws

Trailer Description

It’s common for sellers to sell a trailer as part of an RV sale, especially during long-distance relocation or delivery. For those who don’t know, a trailer may be used to transport an RV over land, usually by towing it with an SUV or a truck.

Here’s how you can customize this section to identify the trailer being sold as part of the RV sale:

  • Make: Name of the manufacturer, e.g., Load Rite, or Karavan
  • Model: Model name or number, as it appears on the trailer’s registration or identification plate (e.g., LR-AB14T)
  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): A unique 17-character VIN stamped on the trailer’s frame, identifying the trailer for registration and legal purposes

Feel free to use our separate Trailer Bill of Sale to finalize the sale of any non-motorized trailer from a seller to a buyer!

Note

Each state or locality may have its own rules about what must be included in a trailer bill of sale. Be sure to check with your local DMV to ensure your Bill of Sale document meets all legal requirements.

Are taxes included in the paid purchase price?

Specify whether the stated payment amount includes any applicable government taxes, which may be local, state, or federal. Tax obligations vary, so be sure to research the regulations in your jurisdiction. Note: if the dirt bike is being transferred as a gift, different tax rules or exemptions may apply.

Pro Tip

Always attach proof of payment as a supporting doc, such as a receipt, check copy, or bank transfer record.

Clarifying any warranties or guarantees is essential at the time of sale. If the dirt bike experiences performance issues after purchase, the buyer may be eligible for coverage under a warranty provided by the manufacturer, insurer, seller, or a third party.

Use this section to state clearly whether the bike is being sold “as-is” without any warranty, or if a warranty is being offered. If a warranty applies, be sure to specify its duration and terms of coverage.

You can also use this section to clarify if the buyer has had a chance to conduct a pre-sale inspection of the RV.

note

Private sales are generally “as is” sales, where the buyer offers no warranty against the product being sold.

Signatures

Both parties must add dated signatures to fully execute the agreement, making it legally binding as of the date of sale.

Useful Tip

If someone is signing on behalf of the buyer or seller, make sure there’s a signed Power of Attorney giving them the authority to do so. The PoA must be affixed to the Bill of Sale as a supporting document (see above).

Notarization

In certain U.S. states—such as Louisiana, Montana, and West Virginia—notarization is legally required for a Bill of Sale to be considered valid. Even in states where it’s not mandatory, notarizing is recommended, as it adds an extra layer of legal security, making the transaction or the transaction terms harder to dispute in court.

What We Offer: To help you do this seamlessly, we’ve included a printable Notarization Form as part of this package—ensuring your Bill of Sale is both compliant and court-ready.

Supporting Materials

Attaching the right supporting documents to your RV Bill of Sale makes the process smoother and safer for everyone. These documents help both parties verify key details and protect them from legal conflicts down the road.

Here are some of the most common documents attached to an RV Bill of Sale:

  • Certificate of Title
  • Previous bill of sale (if any)
  • Registration Document (current or past)
  • Driver’s license or state IDs of both buyer and seller for verification
  • Proof of payment
  • Lien Release Letter (if applicable)
  • Odometer Disclosure Statement
  • Maintenance records
  • Warranty documents (if any)
  • Emissions Certificate
  • Notarized Bill of Sale (in states where notarization is required)
  • Insurance Proof (Optional)
  • Power of Attorney (if applicable)

Clearly label and reference each document to avoid mix-ups or confusion later!

What We Offer?

For your ease, we also provide a print-able checklist of supporting documents or materials typically required for selling or transferring any motorized or non-motorized vehicle in the U.S. This ensures you don’t miss or overlook any important step in the process.

What is an Odometer Disclosure Statement?

An Odometer Disclosure Statement is a formal document that records the exact mileage of the dirt bike at the time of sale or ownership transfer. An ODS is required under federal law for RVs weighing 16,000 lbs or less, and under 10 years old.

Signed by both the buyer and seller, this statement helps prevent odometer fraud and ensure compliance with federal and state laws.

Our print-ready form makes it easy to include key transaction details—such as vehicle description, mileage, and party information—along with required signatures.

Good to Know

Sellers are legally obligated to disclose if the odometer has exceeded its mechanical limits or has been altered or tampered with. Failure to provide an accurate disclosure can result in civil fines or criminal penalties in several U.S. states.
