Before starting a consulting project, a document describing the scope of work between the clients and the consulting agencies or individual consultants is signed. Such agreements properly describe the scope of work of a project. Crafting such a comprehensive document from scratch, while ensuring the presence of all the mandatory information can be very time-consuming. For this purpose, a free template is provided which can be used by consultants to effectively manage, and organize their projects. It has sections, such as overview, objectives, scope of services, deliverables, timeframe, compensation, payment terms, and more of a project. Furthermore, sections discussing confidentiality, revisions in the scope of work, and communication are also present in this template. It creates transparency in agreements that further enhances clarity and understanding of terms between both parties.

In the header of this template, you can write your company’s street address, city, zip code, email, phone number, and website. Then, you can write the project number and the date when you submit this scope of work.

The main sections of this template are the following:

Overview

A brief introduction and a background to the project can be written in this section. You can also write a summary or a concise description of the scope of work that provides general information about it.

Objectives

The scope of any work can be determined by knowing its objectives. The purpose or objectives of your consulting project can be written in this section of the template.

Scope of Services

Defining the scope of services can foster an environment of accountability and transparency. Here, you can write the task details, their description, and specific deliverables. Several rows are provided for this purpose, where you can write the particulars of tasks and bring clarity to the expectations of clients.

Deliverables

What deliverables the client can expect from you? Rows are provided for writing those deliverables, their description, and due dates. By writing these deliverables and achieving them on time, you can gain the trust of your clients.

Timeframe

Setting up a timeframe for individual tasks can motivate you to achieve your already set goals on time. In this section, you can write the names of the tasks within rows, including their start and end dates. As you mention the task particulars, your client can expect their completion as per your suggested timeframe and do proper planning for the future.

Compensation and Payment Terms

Milestones for payments of individual tasks can be set in this section, i.e., as a complete task or a part of a task is completed you can receive a specific payment per your mutual consensus. You can name these milestones, write their descriptions, and set their due dates and amounts (charges).

Confidentiality

This template ensures complete confidentiality between the client and the consultants. In this section, you can write the terms about the confidentiality of information regarding the project.

Termination

There are some terms in every contract, the violation of which can result in the termination of the contract. Such terms, if violated by any party, would terminate the contract. These terms can be listed in this section.

Revision/Changes

To ensure the flexibility of the contract, there is a process for requesting and implementing changes to the scope of work. Such processes can be written in this section.

Communication

Effective communication between both parties can lead to the successful completion of the project. In this section, you can write the methods of communication, which can be through phone calls or email. The frequency (how often the communication will take place) and the names of the contact persons can also be documented here.

Miscellaneous

This section of the template is dedicated to providing you the leniency to add any other terms and conditions or provisions that either party wants to include in the project.

Approvals

Once the template is filled and terms are clearly understood and discussed, then you can write the names of the stakeholders that are partaking in this project. Rows are provided for this purpose. The role of each stakeholder can also be written, such as project manager, coordinator, and more. The date when these stakeholders’ names were submitted for approval, can be written, and you can also write the date when they received the approval.

Signatures

In this section of the template, the signatures of both the client and the consultant can be written, including the date when this agreement was signed.

This template is professionally designed, with some perks, such as print readiness, easy customization, placeholders (guiding about the content of the template), division into sections, and more. It is available in various file formats, such as ODT, DotX, DocX, and Google Docs. Overall, it eases the process of consulting the scope of work between clients and consultants.
