Tired of playing Yahtzee the same old way? This Combat Mode version from WordLayouts shakes things up in the best way possible. It’s got all the familiar scoring categories you know and love, but this time, you’re not just rolling for points. You’re rolling for power. With special attacks and defensive moves, you’ll be blocking opponents, stealing points, and turning the game into a full-on strategy battle.

It’s still Yahtzee… just with more bite.

What’s Different About Combat Mode?

At the beginning of the game, each player rolls a special Attack Die three times to collect their powers. These are one-time-use abilities you can unleash at any point in the game, and knowing when to use them makes all the difference.

Here’s what you might get:

  • Steal: Snag 10 points from another player (yep, really).
  • Block: Stop someone from re-rolling.
  • Shield: Protect yourself from incoming attacks.
  • Double Trouble: Make another player skip their entire turn.
  • Dice Freeze: Force someone to stick with their first roll.
  • Roll Dice: Just a normal roll, no extra power this time.

Once you’ve got your powers, you play regular Yahtzee but with the freedom to throw a wrench in someone’s plans whenever it feels right. It adds tension, laughter, and a whole lot of “no way!” moments.

What You’ll Actually Get In This Yahtzee Score Sheet Template

This template gives you everything you need to jump straight into the action. You’ll get a printable score sheet with room for 4 players. The scoring categories are the same as the classic game, but with the addition of the Attack Tracker.

And also a DIY Attack Die you can cut and fold. The instructions are built right into the sheet, so you’re not flipping pages or checking your phone mid-game.

Everything’s been laid out to keep the gameplay smooth and the experience fun. Clean design, easy to read, and just enough flair to keep things exciting.

How to Play the Yahtzee Combat Mode

Yahtzee Combat Mode is just like the regular game you know, but with one spicy twist, the Attack Die! Suddenly, it’s not just about rolling big combos; you can throw off your opponents, defend yourself, and pull off sneaky moves to take the win.

What You’ll Need

You don’t need much:

  • Yahtzee score sheet template and 5 normal dice.
  • One special Attack Die with these six sides: Steal, Block, Shield, Double Trouble, Dice Freeze, Roll Dice.

Power Up Before You Start

Before the game kicks off, each player rolls the Attack Die three times.

  • Whatever you roll, jot it down, and those powers are yours for the rest of the game.
  • You can only use each one once, so don’t just blow them right away. Save them for when they’ll really hurt (or help).

Your Turn in Combat Mode

When it’s your turn, roll your 5 dice just like in regular Yahtzee.

  • You can re-roll some (or all) dice up to two more times unless somebody stops you.
  • After your final roll, write your score in any open category.
  • You can fire off one of your powers now, or even jump in during another player’s turn if your power lets you.

Attack Die Powers and What They Do

  • Steal: Take 10 points from someone else and tack them onto your own score.
  • Block: Cut off another player’s re-roll before they get the chance.
  • Shield: Stop any attack against you (you’ve gotta call it right away).
  • Double Trouble: Force someone to skip their next turn.
  • Dice Freeze: On their next turn, they only get one roll.
  • Roll Dice: No extra effect; just play your turn as usual.

Power Rules

  • You can only use one power per turn, either on your own turn or during someone else’s.
  • Once you use it, cross it off your list. Gone for good.
  • Hang onto them if you want, but not for too long once the sheet’s full, the game’s over.

Winning the Game

Play until every category on every sheet is filled.
Before adding up totals, deal with any last-minute power effects like adding points, taking points away, whatever’s left to clean up.

Then add everything up. Whoever’s sitting on top after all that is the champ. 🏆

Tactical Tip

You don’t always need to use your powers for your own gain. Sometimes the smartest move is to block a huge Yahtzee or freeze the leader just long enough for you to slip past them.

File Details

  • You’ll get the file in AI (Adobe Illustrator) and PDF, which makes editing easy.
  • The page is 8.5 x 11 inches, which is the standard U.S. letter size and is perfect for home printers.
  • If you’re into customization, choose the AI format, and you can totally tweak the design and make it your own. Or just print the PDF and go.
