If you own a car or work in the auto industry, you will probably have a fair idea of just how much work goes into vehicle upkeep. From oil changes and wheel alignment to general vehicle inspections – maintaining vehicles can be a handful.

Thankfully, you can always use a simple log to track any repair and maintenance services performed on your vehicle, by whom, and when. Since they provide a clear and detailed history of these services, logs are often used by vehicle owners, auto-repair shops, fleet managers, and individual mechanics to protect vehicle health and extend vehicle lifetime.

In our Vehicle Maintenance Template, we account for as many as 13 different types of maintenance activities performed on a vehicle. This is followed by a Date/Time column to specify the chronology of the work done on your car, as well as a separate column for recording your car’s mileage. Other items may include space for additional information, such as the condition of the vehicle or when the next service is due.

How Our Template Works

We have deliberately designed our template to be simple and straightforward. We use a tabular format where you can record the following most commonly sought-after maintenance services. These are:

  • Oil Change
  • Balance Tires
  • Tire Replaced
  • Wheel Alignment
  • Air Filter
  • Fuel Filter
  • Spark Plugs
  • Brakes Serviced
  • Transmission
  • Wiper Blades
  • Batteries
  • Radiator
  • Belts/Hoses

The template is good as-is and print-ready to print maintenance log cards. Still, you can always use the Excel version to rebrand and replace or remove one of the current service categories to add a particular service of your own choosing, tailored to your needs.

Enter the date you took a car to be serviced or a general vehicle inspection. You may refer to the vehicle’s manual to learn more about the recommended maintenance schedule which may vary by manufacturer or type of vehicle.

Once you have done this, it’s time to check all those services being performed on your vehicle on that specific date. A dated list of maintenance activities helps you easily track the condition of your vehicle over time.

In the last column, you record the mileage of your vehicle at the time of servicing or inspection. Tracking mileage by date of recurring services (such as oil changes and air filter changes) will help you create a maintenance schedule based on vehicle usage. It is also a great way to make sure your parts are lasting their entire lifespan and keep track of how much your vehicle is driving.
